Stacey Grant, UNILEVER

Consumer & Market Insights Director

I graduated from the University of KZN with my Honours in Industrial Psychology, and joined Unilever’s consumer and market insights (CMI) department. I have worked in CMI for the last 11 ½ years across most categories in the business – from Hair Care, to Deodorants, to Household Care, to Laundry, to Ice-cream and to Foods. And I have led teams at both a local country level, as well as a cross-continent cluster level. I have been fortunate enough to be part of teams that have developed exciting innovations and renovations, as well as teams that deploy these in the markets. I love Unilever, and I think we have amazing brands that are truly invested in giving our consumers the best. I am also very inspired the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, which highlights our genuine commitment to working with people and the planet, and not against it.

For the last 4 years I have led the Foods CMI team for Africa, Middle East, Turkey and Russia. Working in such a volatile region certainly has its highs and lows – what I love most about my job is that I am constantly pushed to find creative solutions to doing research. There has never been a more exciting time to work in marketing, as well as in research. The advancements in technology, the rise of garage start-ups, and the purpose-driven mindset of millennials, are just a few of the critical factors that are forcing us to rethink how we do things.

I have been very happily married for 9 years to my soul-mate and best-friend, and 2 years ago I started the most important job of my life – being a mom, Jordan Riley is 2 years old, and he is the light that welcomes me home every day, and keeps me sane. Being a working-mom is not easy, but it is very rewarding, and has given me a sense of peace and perspective that has made me even better at what I do!
